           "IMMORTALITY OF THE SOUL"

The more technology progresses, and modern life provides us with ways of facilitating our day to day lives, the more mankind becomes anguished noticing that although we have so many resources, death is still a disturbing presence that can take everything away in a second, even when life expectancy has greatly increased, comparing to decades ago.
Looking to comfort, the conventional religions, as a general rule, try to calm their followers, presenting them the immortality of the soul. The problem is that most religions have presented life simply as two extreme opposites: the existence in a physical body as a definitive experience, and spiritual life, also definitive, offering either happiness or suffering, dependent on the people’s moral behavior during the physical life existence. Even though the objective is to ease people’s mind, in actuality this approach, instead of bringing serenity, brings discomfort. Death continues to be seen as a tragedy and human behavior towards it is really not that different than our ancestors’.
That is why the Spiritist Doctrine - coded by Allan Kardec and offered to us by superior spirits since 1857 – is a sound proposal, totally in alignment with modern life, as it demonstrates, in an undeniably and logical way, that our journey doesn’t start at conception, and does not end with death. The Doctrine tells us that, being created simple and ignorant, we must evolve, through consecutive lives, until we meet a final goal - to be perfect.
For this reason, the Spiritist Doctrine taken seriously, have helped the ones free of prejudice and really interested in resolving, in a rational way, basic questions that defies us since remote times. Who are we? What is our purpose on Earth? What’s our destination?
André Luiz, in the book “Nosso Lar, the astral home”, wrote: “Life never ends. It is an ever flowing source, and death is only the artful effect of an illusion…” . “The great river follows its own course before emptying into the vast sea. Likewise, the soul follows equally varied courses and passes through different banks – receiving here and there tributaries of knowledge, strengthening its identity and perfecting its qualities – before reaching the ocean of eternal wisdom…” . “The closing of our earthly eyes is such a simple event…” . “The shedding of the physical body doesn’t solve the fundamental questions of awareness, just as changing one’s clothes has nothing to do with the deep questions of life and destiny…”
“One life is but a single act
                   One body – a garment
                   One century – a day
                   One task – an experience
                   One triumph – an acquisition
One death – a breath of renewal
How many lives, bodies, centuries, tasks, triumphs, and deaths are still allotted to us?”

                                                Inácio José de Paula
